TODAY IN HISTORY: November 13th 1960 Sammy Davis, Jr. and May Britt marry at a private ceremony. Frank Sinatra was the best man. Frank Entrata, and Peter Lawford were witnesses. Davis broke 31 laws that day since interracial marriage would not become legal in all states for 7 more years. Davis and Britt faced the full wrath of America’s bigotry but the lovebirds soldiered on. Through death threats, open racism, Britt’s movie career ended when her contract was not renewed. Sammy, a big JFK supporter, was scheduled to perform at the inauguration but was UNINVITED because of the marriage.
