Davis broke 31 laws that day since interracial marriage would not become legal in all states for 7 more years. Davis and Britt faced the full wrath of America’s bigotry but the lovebirds soldiered on. Through death threats, open racism, Britt’s movie career ended when her contract was not renewed.
