Hello world! Ladies and Gentlemen…

sunrises on a new day
It's a new day! Read a blog post!

So we’ll see how this goes…My name is Frank and I’m a big music fan but not a musician. I just play one in the privacy of my home. Growing up, I thought everybody was a big music fan. And I thought everybody wanted to be a rockstar.  However it turns out that NOT everyone gets “geeky” like I do when it comes to music fandom. I was born in the 60’s and grew up in the 70’s, 80’s which is a pretty good time in history to be breathing in all the music in the air.  It was also a great time, musically, to be in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was the Bill Graham era! The man who invented the Rock concert. Bill brought EVERYONE to the Bay Area for our rocking pleasure.

I hope I have a lot to say about the music I hear and the bands I see. I’m hoping to gather like-minded fans of all genres of music for a discussion about why we are so affected by this universal language.

I hope to review and discuss my old favorites and new favorites in music. Old and new concert memories, maybe show some my amateur photos. Maybe even music news. Whatever I find is fun to share. Thanks for looking in!

Why Rock Candy?

Because it’s “hot, sweet, and STICKY”, of course! Actually, I was trying to come up with a title for the blog and my wife, suggested a song title. It had to be a song I loved by a favorite artist. “Rock Candy” by Montrose is as good as any. Also an interesting place to begin for me.

Sammy Hagar The Red Rocker!
RED ROCKER

I’m not sure where or when I first heard “Rock Candy”. Montrose released it on their debut album in 1973. I was 10 years old so it’s probable I heard it on the radio. Somehow, somewhere this song crept into my consciousness. Another song off that self-titled album is “Bad Motor Scooter”. Both are classic rock songs with distinctive “gotcha’s”. Rock Candy has an intro that is so good, I dare you NOT to air drum. Denny Carmassi! Bad Motor Scooter starts with a Ronnie Montrose guitar engine sound and it’s off to the races.

Little did I know that the unknown lead singer of Montrose would play a big part in my story much later.
